Liposculpture or arm lift Turkey
Your arms can be lifted and made tighter in a number of ways. The various treatment options are explained during a consultation with a plastic surgeon and the technique that suits you best is examined. Is your skin still elastic enough? Then an actual arm lift is not necessary. You can also opt for liposculpture, whereby accumulated fat is sucked out from the arms. If your skin appears to be insufficiently elastic or you want to have the excess skin removed, an arm lift is a suitable solution. The plastic surgeon can also propose a combination of both techniques.
Arm lift in Istanbul, Turkey; the procedure
Before the surgical procedure, photos are made that are added to your medical file. The procedure itself takes place under general anaesthesia or with sedation. Prior to surgery, the surgeon will mark the skin that will be removed. The incisions are then made along these lines. This creates a long scar that has an S-shape and that runs from your armpit to the elbow. Experienced doctors place the scar on the inside of the upper arm, which is hardly noticeable later. If this has been agreed with you, excess fat will be sucked away at the same time. Subcutaneous sutures are applied and the wound is taped with adhesive plasters. Drains are applied occasionally, but this is not always necessary. The procedure takes 2 to 3 hours, after which you will be brought to the recovery room and woken up. After the arm lift you must wear special pressure dressing. This will be a tight sleeve for upper arms. It is important to wear it day and night for the first month. Light work can be resumed two weeks after the arm lift. Sports and heavy work can be done after 4 to 6 weeks. Are you unsure? Then consult with the plastic surgeon whether it’s a responsible decision to get to work.
Complications and side effects
The arm lift is a commonly performed procedure. It is a safe operation, with the same risks as any other operation. People with a lot of subcutaneous fatty tissue in their arms are more likely to develop infections after the procedure. It is advised to pursue a normal BMI for the arm lift. Post-bleeding can also occur. In that case, additional surgery is often required to close the blood vessel in question. Rare side effects include a change in feeling in the arms, damaged tissue structures and a disappointing result. Removing the excess skin leaves relatively long scars. In the period shortly after the arm lift, the scars are red and swollen. This decreases during the weeks and months that follow. Fresh scars need an average of one year to fade and heal. In one year, the colour changes from red, to white, to the surrounding colour of your skin. Never expose fresh scars to the sun, this has an adverse effect on the final appearance. Do you want to exert a positive influence on the overall effect? Then, if applicable, stop smoking more than 6 weeks before the procedure. The ingredients of tobacco products impede circulation, which means that you may experience poor wound-healing. In addition, you reduce the chance of excessive bleeding by stopping smoking. Interestingly, health insurers nowadays have full or partial reimbursement options for smokers who want to quit.
Results of an arm lift
People who undergo the arm lift are usually satisfied with the results achieved afterwards. An arm lift is a procedure that does not work wonders, but your arms are clearly tighter afterwards and the drooping skin has disappeared. A disadvantage of a surgical arm lift is the scars that remain on the inside of the arm and in your armpit. Attempts are made to make the incisions as much as possible in natural skin folds, so that they are hardly noticeable later. How a scar heals differs very much from person to person. The first improvements are visible immediately after the arm lift. It takes about a year before the final result can be assessed. In principle, the results remain. However, if you gain a lot of weight, or if you lose a lot of weight, the skin can hang and a new procedure is sometimes necessary.
Arm lift costs and reimbursements
The arm lift is not reimbursed under a basic insurance. There is no medical necessity, and the procedure is usually performed for aesthetic reasons. Reimbursements for cosmetic and plastic surgery are sometimes, in part, reimbursed by additional healthcare insurance. The options differ per insurer. The plastic surgeons of the Dutch Clinic apply the procedure from the accredited clinic in Istanbul. This means that we can offer the procedure for a lower rate than is usual in the Netherlands. The doctors in Hoofddorp are in close contact with the plastic surgeons in Istanbul. You are assured of optimum quality and professional aftercare.

Arm lift Turkey – Frequently Asked Questions
Below you will find the most frequently asked questions about an arm lift in Turkey. The questions are provided with short answers. Do you have additional or other questions after reading the information? Then please contact us.
1. What is an arm lift?
Due to the aging process and weight loss, the skin of your arm can sag and hang. The excess skin hangs and is disturbing. With the help of an arm lift, the excess skin and possibly accumulated fatty tissues are removed.
2. Am I suitable for an arm lift in Turkey?
Excess skin on the upper arms can cause irritations and feelings of shame. As long as your health permits, the procedure can, in principle, be performed. It is not a way to lose weight, the doctor will point this out to you during the consultation.
3. Is there an alternative to a surgical arm lift?
If your skin is still sufficiently elastic and there is excess fat in the upper arms, you may consider a liposuction treatment. This procedure is less invasive than when the excess skin is also removed. In addition, the scars are less visible after liposuction, while with an arm lift they can be more apparent.
4. How does the treatment work?
The arm lift is performed under full anaesthesia and lasts 1.5 to 2 hours. The excess skin is mainly removed on the inside of your upper arm. For this, an incision is made, which runs from your armpit to the bottom of your upper arm. The surgical wound is sutured and the arm is bound up. After the operation, you will stay one night in the clinic.
5. Do the scars remain visible?
The incision made to remove excess skin is on the inside of your arm and runs the entire length of your upper arm. Depending on the way you heal, the scar will be red, especially in the first months after the procedure. This redness decreases with time and the scar increasingly takes on the colour of your skin. Do not expose fresh scars to the sun for at least a year. You can also use a scar cream.
6. Is an arm lift painful?
The procedure is applied under general anaesthesia, so that you feel no pain. After an arm lift, your skin may be swollen and bruises are visible. Post-pain can occur, this can be taken care of with painkillers. Your arm is bound up with a pressure bandage, so that the worst swellings are prevented and the surgical wound has time to heal. The plastic surgeon recommends how long the dressing stays in place, usually 3 to 7 days.
7. Does the quality of my skin improve with an arm lift?
No, the arm lift does not change the quality of the skin. The surplus skin is removed during the procedure. For example, if you suffer from stretch marks, these may decrease because there is less skin present. The skin that is not removed still has stretch marks after the arm lift. The skin of the upper arm is tightened during the arm lift, making your upper arms look better.
8. Are the results permanent?
In principle, the result achieved is permanent. The skin does not stretch itself, certainly not with a stable weight. However, if you gain a lot of weight, the skin may start to stretch again and hang. A lifestyle change is advised after an arm lift. That means that you opt for regular exercise in combination with a responsible diet.
9. What risks and side effects does an arm lift have?
The arm lift is a safe operation, if performed by an experienced surgeon in a hygienic treatment room. General surgery risks can occur with any surgical procedure, including an arm lift. Post-bleeding, poor wound healing, infections and noticeable scars are among the possible side effects. To reduce the chance of side effects, it is important to stop smoking well before the operation. Smoking has a negative impact on wound healing and can result in skin tissue death.
10. What should I do in case of persistent complaints after an arm lift?
Your file will be transferred to the doctors of the Dutch Clinic in Hoofddorp when you leave the clinic in Istanbul. If in doubt, always contact the clinic. Occasionally, a wound infection occurs with symptoms such as fever, redness, swelling and pus coming out of the wound. A doctor can reassure you or immediately start adequate treatment.
11. When can I resume my work?
Depending on the progress of your recovery, you can perform light work and efforts after a week. More intensive tasks are only advised again 4 to 6 weeks after the procedure. How quickly you can resume your normal work depends strongly on the nature of your work and the working conditions.
12. Is a drain installed after the procedure?
One or more drains are installed for most procedures. This is determined during the procedure itself. The drains drain the excess wound fluid and blood. They are usually removed one day after the arm lift.
13. How much does an arm lift cost?
At the Dutch Clinic, the costs for the procedure are € 1,999. In addition to the procedure, this amount also includes transfers, hotel, hospital, hospital supervision, consultation and aftercare in the Netherlands. The only additional costs relate to the flight to and from Istanbul. We can also arrange this for you.
14. Are the costs reimbursed by my health insurer?
Health insurers do not reimburse an arm lift. If necessary, with a medical indication, a plastic surgeon can advise whether it is useful to request reimbursement. In the absence of reimbursement, you are responsible for paying the costs.
15. Can I combine an arm lift in Turkey with a sun holiday?
The order of your journey is important. After the arm lift, it is better not to expose the wound and scar to sunlight for at least 6 weeks. If you want to combine a cosmetic procedure with a holiday, that is certainly possible, as long as the holiday precedes the procedure. Discuss the options with the plastic surgeon.
